{"id":331,"date":"2015-08-24T22:33:29","date_gmt":"2015-08-24T22:33:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.findthomas.net\/blog\/?p=331"},"modified":"2015-08-26T11:24:42","modified_gmt":"2015-08-26T11:24:42","slug":"atmel-to-support-epid-from-intel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.findthomas.net\/blog\/2015\/08\/24\/atmel-to-support-epid-from-intel\/","title":{"rendered":"Atmel to support EPID from Intel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One important\u00a0news item\u00a0this week from\u00a0the IoT space is the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.metering.com\/internet-of-things-atmel-and-intel-partner-on-iot-security\/\" target=\"_blank\">support by Atmel of Intel&#8217;s EPID technology<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Enhanced Privacy ID (EPID) grew\u00a0from the work of <a href=\"http:\/\/csrc.nist.gov\/groups\/ST\/PEC2011\/presentations2011\/brickell.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Ernie Brickell and\u00a0Jiangtao Li<\/a> based on previous work on Direct Anonymous Attestations (DAA). \u00a0DAA is very relevant because\u00a0it is built-in into the TPM1.2 chip (of which there are several hundred million in PC machines).<\/p>\n<p>Here is a quick summary of EPID:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>EPID is a special digital signature scheme.<\/li>\n<li>One public key corresponds to multiple private keys.<\/li>\n<li>Private key generates a EPID signature.<\/li>\n<li>EPID signature can be verified using the public key.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Interesting Security Properties:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Anonymous\/Unlinkable: Given two EPID signatures one cannot determine whether they are generated from one or two private keys.<\/li>\n<li>Unforgeable: Without a private key one cannot create a valid signature.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One important\u00a0news item\u00a0this week from\u00a0the IoT space is the support by Atmel of Intel&#8217;s EPID technology.
